Some of Manitoba's most vulnerable will find safe housing thanks to a new community partnership.

The government of Manitoba is creating a new initiative to support women and children in need of housing to escape situations of abuse.

Wahbung Abinoonjiiag has been chosen to lead the combined initiative. The organization has a strong history supporting women and children experiencing violence in their homes.

The group project will connect women and children to safe housing and resources to help them transition.

“These families can feel supported, knowing their housing provider also has expertise and understanding related to their situation.  We believe this partnership will help more women and children to heal and thrive,” Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Cathy Cox says.

The project is part of a 12-month action plan created by the government of Manitoba's Minister of Families. The program is working to help vulnerable Manitobans "lead lives of dignity and financial independence."

Homes are already being created to support the program and Wahbung Abinoonjiiag is accepting housing applications this spring.
