A single-family bungalow in the 1800 block of Elgin Avenue has been torn down after a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Winnipeg fire crews were called to the home at 2:20 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found the home fully in smoke and flames. Starting with a defensive fire attack due to the heavy fire conditions by using an external ladder truck to use water.

Firefighters briefly entered the home, and due to unsafe conditions were forced outside to continue using water from the exterior.

No injuries were reported as all occupants of the house safely self-evacuated.

The structural integrity of the house was compromised, so WFPS arranged for the emergency demolition of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
