RCMP in western Manitoba are investigating after human remains were found by a hunter over the weekend.

Police say the Blue Hills Brandon RCMP Detachment was called Saturday around 3:25 p.m.

A hunter said he was in the woods near Highway 1A in the RM of Cornwallis when he found a bone he believed to be human.

The Manitoba RCMP says in a release that officers attended the scene and used the assistance of their Police Dog Service from Brandon and the RCMP Search and Rescue team. Those teams discovered more human remains in the area.

The investigation of the remains is ongoing with the assistance of the Chief Medical Examiner’s office. Blue Hills RCMP continue to investigate.

The RM of Cornwallis includes the City of Brandon and the surrounding area.
