The Winnipeg Humane Society is calling for action after more than 100 horses were forced to sit outside for hours in freezing temperatures.

A photo of horses is going viral after the Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) pointed out that horses were outside in -35 degree temperatures at the James Armstrong Richardson International Airport Sunday night.

They say the animals were in the cold for hours.

"The Winnipeg Humane Society urges supporters to contact their MP and ask they help put a stop (to) this inhumane practice," they write on Facebook.

They are directing people towards the Canadain Horse Defence Coalition's sample letters.

Last week, the WHS went live with Jann Arden and the Canadain Horse Defence Coalition, highlighting the treatment of horses.
