Power has been regained in North Kildonan after a huge outage earlier today.

Update (4:23 p.m.) - Crews from Manitoba Hydro were reporting full restoration of power in the North Kildonan area as of 3:30 p.m. Damaged and defective equipment were fixed by crews, Hydro is asking that anybody still experiencing a lack of power let them know online via hydro.mb.ca/outage.

Manitoba Hydro spokesperson Scott Powell says a fairly large area is affected.

"Approximate boundaries include Lagimodiere to the east, but that feeder actually crosses over, so it's not really a square, it kind of wraps around Kilcona Park out towards the Harbourview Golf Course. And then extending westward, approximately to just around the Gateway Road area, to just south of Grassie Boulevard and then north to the Perimeter."

Powell says about 21-hundred customers are affected by this outage. There's currently no estimated time that power will be restored.

"We're waiting to hear what the cause is. You can execute repairs but if the underlying cause isn't solved, you're in danger of just blowing the breaker again, if that is indeed the problem. So you have to make sure you find out what caused the initial failure in the first place, repair that, and then you can re-energize the system."

Powell says this outage started around 9:30, and there was another outage in that area earlier this morning.

"Two different feeder lines are affected. We had an outage in that area earlier today, it affected around 400 customers at around 6-6:30 this morning. We were anticipating having that back on by 10, (but) since that time we've had reports of wires on the ground and some loud bangs in the area and we've lost another feeder than that supplies that area."

Powell says crews are out on scene.
