Strong winds and freshly fallen snow are making for a hazardous commute Thursday morning.

An Alberta clipper continues to make its way through the province with up to 15 centimetres of snow expected to fall before the system rolls out.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Winnipeg and surrounding areas, while the Parklands area is under a snowfall warning.

For the first time this year, the perimeter highway has been shut down. 

Highway 16, from Neepawa to Highway 50 is also closed.

Motorists are encouraged to find another route.
