A cyberattack has left an indigenous child welfare authority trying to figure out how to restore their files.

The Southern First Nations Network of Care were victims of a malware attack last week that has corrupted its computer files and potentially compromised the privacy of clients.

The organizations I-T department has been trying to restore service since the attack took place last Thursday, November 22.

When the province became aware, immediate steps were taken to ensure provincial systems and information remained safe.

The province says that they are working with the authority, offering them technical and other supports. They are also limiting remote access to its computer systems to ensure security until the problem has been fixed.

The RCMP and Canadian Centre for Cyber Security are investigating.
