Winnipeg firefighters are expected to remain at the scene of a fire in Point Douglas throughout the evening on Saturday.

The blaze broke out just after 6:30 p.m. in a vacant, multi-storey industrial building on Sutherland Avenue between Maple Street North and Argyle Street North.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Due to the dangerous conditions, crews battled the fire from the exterior, using aerial ladders to apply water.

This is the third time this building has gone up in flames. It was previously gutted by a fire on July 4, 2023, and then sustained added damage in a fire on Sept.19, 2023.

Following the July fire, the building was considered a complete loss due to extreme fire, smoke and water damage, with large sections of the building left partially collapsed. Several other minor fires have occurred at the location since then.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire remains under investigation.
