A local teenager has been invited to Alberta to be part of a Bible quiz meet, one of many he has competed in.

Dallas Cox was invited to Crowsnest, Alberta to compete in the Great West Invitational Meet. Top quizzers from Canadian Midwest and Pacific Northwest quizzing associations will meet in southern Alberta, at Crowsnest Lake Bible Camp.

This will be his first trip to Alberta. "I wasn't expecting to do all this travel," Cox laughed when asked if he believed Bible quizzing would allow him to travel.

Bible quizzing is a memorization program for teenagers from grade 7 to grade 12. The focus this year for the teens is both 1 and 2 Corinthians. Cox says he loves the competition involved, but there is more than that.

"It's also great for the social aspect," Cox said. "You meet a lot of great people at these quiz meets."

Bible memorization doesn't go to waste, Cox said. Even though he doesn't remember everything he has studied, he does have a better understanding of it and believes he will carry this through his whole life.

"I doubt I'm ever going to memorize the entire Bible," Cox laughed. "But it has inspired me to study the Bible closer."

At the most recent meet, Dallas Cox finished in fifth individually out of 24 students, while his team finished third. District Finals for Canadian Midwest Quizzing take place at the end of April at Briercrest College and Seminary.
