Local band, The Color, have seen a lot of success in Canada in recent years. Now they're heading south of the border.

"We're really excited. We actually have our first single being released in the United States, today," James Shiels from the Color told CHVN Friday morning.

For the band, it's their first real venture into what is a very competitive music market. "The extent of our touring is one performance at a festival in 2012 or 2013. It is new, for sure," Jordan Janzen, lead singer, said. "We've been patiently waiting, and just preparing, really, for the last five years of our existence. We've been building to a point where we felt ready to make a push because it is a very competitive industry in the US. We've just been waiting for the right songs, and right opportunities, and we're at that point now."

The venture south is about more than reaching success in a large market, though. "Being able to reach more people has always been our heart and desire. So now we can start to open our music to new ears - that's an important thing," Shiels said. "And let's be honest, if we can go down south and travel during the winter, that's not bad either," he joked.

The band broke the news on their Facebook page on Thursday night.
