A man is charged after he attempted to steal a truck while fleeing from Gimli RCMP.

The 36-year-old fled his vehicle as he was being pulled over on New Year's Day by RCMP. The driver fled his vehicle, ran on to Lake Winnipeg, and tried to steal a truck parked on the ice.

RCMP apprehended the man before he was able to successfully steal the vehicle. While investigating, authorities found a loaded sawed-off shotgun in the man's backpack.

The Winnipeg Beach native is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
