Police believe there could be more victims involved after a man committed lewd acts while in the Exchange District.

Police say they were in the area of Main Street and Market Avenue on Sunday night at 9:03 p.m, responding to a call regarding a 23-year-old woman who was a victim of exposure. When arriving, they discovered the same man committing an additional indecent act.

The Winnipeg Police Service says they noticed the man was armed with an object, a metal pipe, and pursued him on foot as he fleed.

Police say they used a taser but it was ineffective in slowing the suspect down. Constable Jay Murray adds that tasers are not always as effective due to various reasons such as clothing material.

Authorities chased the man into the 500 block of Main street and were able to take the suspect into custody.

A 30-year-old man is being charged with:

  • Indecent Act
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Weapon

Due to the nature of the crime, Murray believes the man may have committed other similar acts. They are asking anyone who may have also been victimized to contact them.

The suspect is described as 30 years of age, of a medium build, and has a dark-coloured beard.

Police are not releasing his name to the public.

If a person believes that may have also been victimized by this man, they are asked to call Winnipeg Police Service’s non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.
