Officers were able to easily identify a man that fled from RCMP, forgetting his driver's license in the hands of the officer who was questioning him.

On Sunday morning a man sleeping in the backseat of his car on the side of Highway 1 was woken by an officer.

A Portage la Prairie RCMP officer noticed the vehicle was unregistered and questioned the male. The officer then asked for their driver's license and brought it to his cruiser to verify it.

As the officer returned with the license, the officer noticed the man was now in the driver's seat with the engine running.

RCMP asked additional questions of the man, but as they were talking, the man suddenly sped off, leaving his driver's license in the possession of the officer.

The officer on-scene sent out a message to RCMP officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Later in the day, Ontario Provincial Police identified the man near Vermillion Bay, Ontario.

A 27-year-old of Windsor, Ontario was fined over $1900. He is also charged with two counts of Flight from Police, Fail to Display Licence Plate, and several others.

The man was not charged for driving without a licence.

The diver was set to appear in court in Manitoba on Monday. RCMP says they continue to investigate this incident.
