RCMP are investigating the death of a man who died after equipment he was operating struck a hydro line.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called just after 3 p.m. on Monday for a report of an injured male on the side of the road on Highway 245, in the RM of Norfolk Treherne, southwest of Winnipeg.

The initial investigation has determined that the male was loading an excavator onto a trailer when the boom came into contact with a hydro line. It is believed that this contact resulted in the man being electrocuted.

Emergency Medical Services attended and the 58-year-old male from Edwin, Man. was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health has been notified.

Portage la Prairie and Treherne RCMP continue to investigate.
