Running since 1957, Camp Moose Lake will not return for another summer after this one is over.

On Wednesday, July 19, Mennonite Church Manitoba (MCM) sold Camp Moose Lake, one of their three camping ministry locations, to the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine.

Camp Moose Lake is located near Sprague, in southeast Manitoba. MCM's camping ministry, Camps with Meaning, still operates Camp Assiniboia and Camp Koinoinia.

"We are so thankful for the incredible ministry that has taken place at this location," Ken Warkentin, the Executive Director of MCM said in a release. "We know it has been holy ground for campers, volunteers and staff."

Camp Moose Lake is where MCM's Associate Director of Communications, Darryl Neustaedter Barg, said he learned to play guitar and lead singing.

"I know others had similar, life-changing experiences," he said in the release. "That said, I've also learned that our camping ministry is more about the people, and how we use our resources, than a particular location."

MCM says it's been challenging to operate three locations with decreasing volunteers and resources, while summer camp options have increased in other places.

A celebration is being planned for September 24, while possession date will be September 29.
