Manitobans will be exposed to a new type of art next weekend during the Merging Mindsets Conference.

Julie Gendron, the conference's coordinator and art director is preparing to host musicians, tech experts, and other artists for the first Merging Mindsets Conference.

The conference's goal is to "explore a new economy based on the intersection of digital technology and the arts."

"There are artists that think about maybe doing this, but think it is too hard."

The event's coordinator hopes to see Manitobans embrace new ways of exploring art using technology.

"I think people need to know that digital does not necessarily mean graphic design or film," Gendron says. "It can be very, very, different."

Some of the people present at the conference include a musician who makes music out of brainwaves, an artist who has worked with NASA and IBM on immersive technology, and several others experimenting with technology and art.

"Making those connections right now between (tech and traditional art) is what is not happening," Gendron says. "There are artists that think about maybe doing this, but think it is too hard."

Gendron hopes the conference will allow Manitobans to think about how to use technology to create and begin collaborating with others. She wants to see tech companies and artists in the province working together using their skills to create something new.

The Merging Mindsets Conference is taking place on March 12 and 13 at the Manitoba Museum.
