It's time to pull out the shovels, winter boots, mittens and parkas, Manitoba is about to get its first taste of winter.

Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shaer says we got our last ditch effort of warm weather on Tuesday.

"We've got a cold front that is slicing through the province right now, bringing some snow to the Riding Mountain area. With the cold front we are getting some northerly winds and falling temperatures," said Shaer.

He says tonight and into the rest of the weekend we will start to see the effects of a Colorado Low moving north, bringing snow and rain to southern Manitoba, as well as strong winds.

"Right now, it does look like Winnipeg will get rainfall for Thursday, but it will start to mix with snow later in the day. Depending when it does, or where that rain/snow line sets up exactly, we could see some snowfall accumulation at least on the grass for now," Shaer explained.

He says we can expect to see approximately 5-10 centimetres of snow in Winnipeg, with higher accumulations along the border and in Westman.

Seasonal temperatures and fall weather will return to the area by the middle of next week.
