Manitoba's six-day streak of having no positive COVID-19 test results has come to an end.

Public health officials announced one new case of the novel coronavirus in the province as of 9:30 am Victoria Day.

The total number of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases in Manitoba is 290. Currently one individual is hospitalized, with no individuals in intensive care. There are 26 active cases.

257 people have recovered from COVID-19.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at seven.

As of Sunday, May 17 an additional 487 laboratory tests were performed. This brings the total number of tests conducted since early February to 35,200.

Manitobans are reminded that travel is not permitted from southern Manitoba to areas north of the 53rd parallel, including campgrounds, which is essentially anywhere north of the northern end of Lake Winnipeg.

It is important to note that while some gradual lifting of restrictions has begun, significant work to limit the spread of COVID-19 must continue. Manitobans experiencing COVID-19 symptoms no longer require a referral from Health Links-Info Santé or their family physician before heading to a community site for COVID-19 testing. Anyone with symptoms is still encouraged to use the online screening tool to determine whether they meet the necessary criteria to be tested.
