More than one-tenth of Manitoba's total COVID-19 case count from the past two years are cases that are currently active.

Manitoba continues to break COVID-19 records with cases totalling more than 80,000 as cases spike during the year's end.

There are 1,494 new infections being announced on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 80,096.

New cases by health region include:

  • 860 in Winnipeg, 142 people who are not fully vaccinated
  • 243 in Prairie Mountain, 38 people who are not fully vaccinated
  • 164 in Interlake-Eastern, 22 people who are not fully vaccinated
  • 157 in Southern, 19 people who are not fully vaccinated
  • 70 in Northern, 19 people who are not fully vaccinated

 

There are 9,924 active cases and 68,780 recoveries. This means 12.39 per cent of Manitoba's total COVID-19 cases since its first case in 2020 are currently listed as active cases.

Manitoba's test rate is 30.7 per cent. Winnipeg's test rate is 32.2 per cent.

The province says 4,343 COVID-19 tests were completed on Thursday.

 

Hospitalization and deaths

There are new deaths, bringing that total to 1,392.

Deaths from Thursday and Friday include:

  • a male in his 70s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Thursday)
  • a male in his 80s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region (reported Thursday)
  • a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Thursday)
  • a female in her 50s from the Northern health region (reported Friday)
  • a male in his 50s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region (reported Friday)
  • a female in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Friday)
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Friday)
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Friday)

 

There are 192 people in the hospital, with 148 of those people having active cases.

There are 30 people in intensive care, with 27 of those people having active cases. 

 

Outbreaks

There are new outbreaks at care homes and the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg.

Outbreaks include:

  • Children’s Hospital, unit CH4
  • Children’s Hospital, unit CH5
  • Actionmarguerite St. Joseph personal care home in Winnipeg
  • The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre personal care home in Winnipeg
