With the weather warming up and a new season approaching, the Downtown Winnipeg Biz is preparing to kick off its summer programming.

This year the Downtown Biz has planned five signature events to celebrate the season's diverse sounds, sights and tastes.

“From music to movies, to food and four-legged furry friends, our summer lineup of events offers something for everyone to enjoy,” says Olivia Billson, Director of Marketing, Engagement and Communications for Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “Adding to the vibrancy of our downtown neighbourhood, these events also help to support a downtown full of people that helps drive economic activity.”

Some of the events planned include a downtown sounds concert series, farmers market, Dog Days of Summer Market, family movie nights and Chinatown and Dim Sum tours.

“This is an exciting time for our city as our downtown neighbourhood continues to transform,” says Billson. “Enjoying downtown this summer is a great way to celebrate Winnipeg’s 150th birthday! We look forward to continuing to work with our partners and BIZ members to build on the positive momentum and showcase the best that downtown has to offer.”

The Downtown Sounds Concert Series kicks off today and runs every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at various locations including Cityplace Winnipeg Outdoor Terrace on St. Mary Avenue, The Forks Outdoor Canopy and True North Plaza.

Meanwhile, the Downtown Winnipeg Summer Farmers' Market kicks off on Thursday Juen 13 and will run every Thursday from 10-3 p.m. at Manitoba Hydro Place until September 12.
