NHL goaltender, James Reimer, thinks integrating faith with the sport he loves is a great combination.
Reimer, now goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes, stopped by the Southdale Community Centre as an on-ice instructor for the Hockey Ministry International that took place this week.
Reimer has helped out in years passed both as an instructor and a speaker and says he has had fun in every role.
For some, a hockey camp that focuses on building your Christian character alongside your stick-handling may not seem like a natural fit.
Reimer says, "Obviously your Christian faith is the most important part of your life. If you can integrate that with the sport you love, I think that's great.
"I know, myself, I actually attended here, as a camper, a couple of times when I was a kid. Being able to go to a camp - a bible camp - where you get to play hockey is a match made in heaven."
Even with a busy professional schedule, Reimer says he loves to come back and help out to have fun with the campers.
Reimer says, "Obviously they [campers] have a good time out here. They have a lot of energy and a lot of smiles - it's just contagious. It's fun to be around them."
