The Mayor's Scholarship for Community Leadership is now open for Winnipeg grade twelve students.

The Mayor's Scholars awards five $1,000 scholarships to Winnipeg's young leaders. Since 2016, the award has gone to students who demonstrate consistent and outstanding dedication to solving community problems and making their communities a better place to live. The scholarship helps students on their educational path after high school.

"It's great to offer this opportunity again this year," said Mayor Brian Bowman in a release. "Too much of the community work many of our young people do goes unrecognized, but it's an important part of building pride in our city."

The award deems community leadership to "demonstrated through activities that promote racial and social inclusion, drive reconciliation, encourage environmental stewardship, and support or empower Winnipeg's less fortunate."

Applications can be found on the mayor's website and must be completed by May 18, 2018.
