People in southern Manitoba are finally in for a break from extreme cold as daytime highs are expected to climb above the freezing mark, with rain and snow also expected Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says that the City of Winnipeg should see a high of +1 Tuesday. While there's a small chance of flurries in the morning, periods of rain mixed with light snow are pretty much a guarantee for the afternoon.

By 5 p.m. or so, as the sun begins to set, temperatures will start heading below the freezing mark.

Dropping temperatures, combined with winds from the northwest at 40 km/h and gusts up to 60 km/h, could make for ice to quickly develop on roadways. Bridges and overpasses are often the first to experience icy conditions as cool air pusses underneath the roadways.

An overnight low of -10 is expected for Winnipeg and then temperatures will continue to fall on Wednesday to -15 by the afternoon. Then on Thursday temperatures climb above 0 degrees once again with more snow and rain mixed throughout the day, before plummeting by 20 degrees overnight. A high of +3 is currently forecasted for Thursday with a low of -17 overnight.
