The province says the minimum wage will be increasing to almost $12/hour next month.

Beginning on October 1, the minimum wage is increasing by 25 cents, going from $11.65 to $11.90.

Manitoba Finance says the increase is based on a 2.2 per cent inflation rate from last year, rounding up to the neared five cents.

Additionally. the province says they are reminding residents of other financial measures taken within the past year. On July 1, 2019, sales tax reduced by one per cent down to seven per cent.

"This broad-based tax cut benefits all Manitoba families and businesses, with an estimated total savings of $325 million in the first full year and growing in each subsequent year," the province says in a statement.

Sales tax was set to drop by an additional one per cent on July 1 of 2020, but the government says they needed to postpone the change due to the pandemic.

The province says on July 1, they eliminated the sales tax on property insurance premiums. They say the change is saving families and businesses $75 million.
