The situation could have been much worse on Monday afternoon when a plane carrying seven people, including the pilot, crashed on a frozen lake.

The Manitoba RCMP says that the Little Grand Rapids detachment received a report of a plane crash on Family Lake, on the south side of the Little Grand Rapids airport around 2:35 p.m.

The Cessna Grand Caravan landed short of the runaway by approximately three to five kilometres, according to RCMP.

All seven people were transported to the nursing station where some were treated for minor injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board and the RCMP continue to investigate.
