Francesca and Joya & April

Johnathan

My names Jonathan Bennici and Im a single dad to two girls, Francesca (5) and Joya (4). My wife April Bennici passed away almost a year ago from breast cancer that has spread to her lungs and brain. My daughters and I were driving home one evening from the sitters house when we heard the commercial come on the radio about this contest. We often listen to CHVN when we’re not listing to Disney princess playlists 😩. When they started talking about “mom” I knew I had to get ready to answer some questions. So I checked in my mirror and sure enough, I could see the expression change on Francesca’s face while she processed what she was hearing. Then she asked. How could we win a prize if we don’t have a mom anymore? And that we can’t take a picture with our mom cause we don’t have one anymore? Francesca was upset that she felt she couldn’t participate in the contest. I responded to her that she still has a mom, and just because she’s in heaven doesn’t mean she’s gone. Something to that effect. I thought about it and was like, we shouldn’t feel excluded cause our circumstances are different, they still have a mom. So then I asked Francesca if she wanted to enter this contest so she could tell people about her mom. She was super excited and couldn’t wait to tell me what to write down. Joya is a little younger so she doesn’t understand things like Francesca does but when her sister shouted with excitement Joya quickly yelled out that she wanted to talk about her mom too! The following day was when I asked Joya to tell me about her mom, and this is what she said. My mommy’s name is April. When we would go out together for lunch, mommy would give us pizza. Mommy would buy me a toy like a stuffy. Mommy would play with me at the park. One time we were at the wood park and I pushed mommy down the twisty slide and she would say “ouch” and I would always laugh. I love mommy all the way to mars, no to Pluto! Love you mama!! Then Joya ran away. When I asked Francesca to tell me about her mom, this is what she said. When I was little I made mommy ride down a hill on a little baby bike and mommy said “don’t push me don’t push me” but I did push her and she went fast down the hill and I laughed. When mommy was sick we would go to the hospital sometimes to visit her. We would bring her some things when we would visit her like flowers and donuts sometimes too. Mommy’s hair was so beautiful, she also looked good when she had no hair cause she had a hat on mostly. Me and mommy had a lot of fun together playing games, painting, and making cookies. Mommy’s baking was so good. She made the best muffins and cupcakes. My mommy’s smile was super beautiful and her hair was the same colour as mine when she was little. I love the memory books with mom and daddy. They are super beautiful. I honestly called my girls aside to ask them to tell me these little bits about their mom. We talk about her all the time but I’ve noticed in the past year their memories are fading away. They love talking about her but Francesca has a hard time cause it makes her sad and she doesn’t think people understand how she feels. This radio contest, isn’t about the prize. I loved the idea that it gave me one more tool to use to help keep Aprils memory alive, and to keep the girls talking and remembering their mom.

I chose these pictures because you see my mom holding me at two weeks starting out as a new mom at the age of 21. I don’t think she had any idea how God would bless her as a mother and how her mothering role would turn out. Now she mothers to a big and beautiful family of 21, including her 4 children, their spouses and her precious 11 grandchildren. God is so good! A year ago my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness which was very difficult for our large and close-knit family. My mom took an early retirement to become his care-giver but also continues her motherly role by care-giving for her children and grandchildren. Knowing how busy our lives with young children can be, my mother still cooks us meals and offers childcare when needed, reminds us to enjoy each day with our little ones because time really does go by so fast. She helps us with groceries and appointments, listening to our struggles and celebrating with us our achievements big and small. From that first moment holding her new baby 39 years ago, she is still the most amazing mother to us all. We cannot thank her enough for modelling the love of Christ by taking care of our dad, by taking care of us, by taking care of her grandchildren, and also taking care of her community. Isn’t that was being a mother is all about? That selfless, unconditional, unstoppable, unshakeable love that only a mother can give? I thank God for the gift of my mom!

My mom is the most amazing mom. She is a wonderful example, support, and friend for me now as as an adult with my own children. She always volunteered at our local church and in Awana so we could learn scripture at a young age. She modelled how to follow Christ and love others. She’s hard working, empathetic and never gives up on anyone, which made her a wonderful teacher and guidance councillor. She is hospitable and loves to invite as many people as she can to a thanksgiving meal. She is truly a proverbs 31 woman and everyday I am thankful for her, her wisdom, and how much she loves me.

Where should I start? For one, she is amazing (obviously) and loves me and my family so much. Her favorite pass time is hiking in the White Shell with our dogs and watching Jeopardy. I love her because she has always taken the time to teach me life lessons that will carry me on into adult hood, among other things. I pray that you would choose her for the prize pack because I would like to surprise her on Mothers Day. Thanks!

My mum and I are both from Tanzania. Moving to Canada 10 years ago without her was the hardest thing I could have ever done. My mum is my rock, I know she would do anything for me. She literally took a bullet for me. Yes, during an attack with robbers about 15 years ago. The greatest gift she gave me with an opportunity to know about Christ at an early age of my life and for that I am forever grateful.

My mom is my greatest fan. She is my greatest example, my encourager and my intercessor in the journey to becoming who I am as a wife and mother myself. Although we have been geographically distant for most of my life we have always been close in heart. When we do get together it’s always precious time with someone who is not only my mom - but my friend and sister too.

Pauline and Fanny

My mom and I spend a lot of time together. She has always been an example to me. I workout regularly because that is what she did all my life, I put my children before myself and try to be the best mom to my kids because my mother has always been and still is an amazing example as a mom. She is not only my mom but also my best friend (besides Jesus and my husband). She is the best Oma, our kids love her and miss her if they don't see her for day or two. She is always willing to help others, she'll babysit for us regularly, she helps elderly people in her church by driving them to appointments and bringing them baked goods or visiting them. She volunteers 2x a week at MCC and loves it. She is just the most amazing mother I could ever have asked for. I am very blessed by her.

My mom has taught me so much. From gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, cleaning and having fun. My mom has always encouraged me to be my own person, travel, love life and take risks. Currently, she is hospitalized and we spend time reading scripture, singing hymns, chatting about how she’s getting herself in trouble with the nurses. My mom is one of a kind!!

God bless this woman! My dear mother is always on the go, always doing a favour for someone. She never takes time for herself. If I could I would definitely by her a ticket to the Bahamas and if I had enough money I would retire her. If bit wasn't for her strong faith in Jesus, I wouldn't have ever got to known the guy! From a really young age, my mom has helped me grow in my faith. She is really the kindest person in the world. To me, she is an example of how Christians should truly act, kind and soft hearted, full of love, but also out going sharing the gospel at any given moment! She is just such a wonderful mom and I think she deserves so much more than me or my sister can give her. If it wasn't for her faith in God, I don't know where I'd be!!!

She is the strongest person I know, her family comes before her which has been very evident these past 2 years while she has taken care of my Dad during his Brain Tumour fight! It was just my me and my mum for many years. She worked long hours everyday, and I didn’t realize how much work she was doing until now, now that I’m older. Because of the many years of just being us two, we’ve became best friends. My mum and I are so close, and she’s the most influential person in my life and will continue to be. She introduced me to the truth and the way of Jesus. My mum is amazing, and I couldn’t ask for a stronger relationship than what we have.

The first picture is one of its kind and unique , I don’t think there’s a person in the world that can say this. My mom went to the hospital to give birth to me and the next day her friend Annette cane into the hospital to have her baby son, (my now brother in law) so my mother in law met me when I was just 2 days old. They share a hospital room for the week as friends never knowing one day they would also share the same grandkids. I love both of our moms so much and we have so much to celebrate this Mother’s Day together. My mom is better after her back surgery, and my mother in law we want to treat her to a special Mother’s Day as she was just given a cancer diagnosis again. During this busy season of life our moms are very very involved in our lives, and even with their health issues they’ve had they are always so positive and encouraging to our family.

I’m the first born so I have a unique relationship with my mom. She was pretty sure she’d never have any more children after the colicky, challenging infant I was and we still joke about me being the angry baby. She had four more after me, so i guess she figured the biggest challenge was over and the rest would be a breeze! She says the 80’s were a blur but she loved a full house and so much laughter, activity and love. She loves to tell jokes, laugh and write history books, she loves God, her church and her community. She calls me at least once per week and we share a love of history, books and birds.

My mom and I share a birthday! She will be 89 in June and is still active in her families’ lives and her community! Though many miles separate us, we manage to FaceTime and chat on the phone often!

Lil and Kathy

Growing up my mother provided her 4 children with everything we needed and much more. Nothing unusual I guess, but she was a fantastic seamstress who made all our clothes and my wedding dress and my girls baptism gowns. She now has mobility issues along with dementia. Rarely does she know I am her daughter now but that’s ok, I still have her to love. Today she knew me for a tiny bit, how wonderful! I am so blessed to be able to be one of her caregivers. She recently recovered a bout of COVID, weeks before her 90th birthday. We celebrated quietly but with lots of laughs and love.

My mom is a very kind and wonderful lady, she has such a big heart and always makes sure we are always well fed when we visit her lol, oh and did I mention her baking is out of this world !!! As for me I’m a single mom who does my best in raising my daughter, if I can be half the women my mother is my mission is complete.

Linda and Kendra

Linda and Kendra

I am her first child and only girl. She has always supported me in anything I did, that included moving to Regina for a year to go to bible college (which she helped pay for) and then doing a 6 week mission trip in Africa. I wouldn't have been able to do either of those things without her help. I learned from here the importance of living your life for God by acts of service, which was one of her strengths. I will be forever grateful for all my Mom has done for me. Now that I am a parent, I understand better now the love and sacrifice she gave me growing up. I had a great childhood and I am so thankful that she is my Mom!

Bev and Shannon

Bev and Shannon

My mom is a praying, serving, encouraging, fun-loving Godly woman. Everyday she looks for ways to be intentional in her relationships and sets aside time to invest in her children, grandchildren and friends. I've watched my mom approach all life's ups and downs with much grace & kindness. She loves to be outdoors walking her grand-dogs, visiting with people over coffee and reading a good book. Oh and her favourite meal is a greasy spoon hamburger and fries! In my humble and maybe slightly biased opinion, she's the absolute best mom ever.

Eureka and Charlene

Eureka and Charlene

Eureka is my daughter and she has just had her second daughter this past March! She has been such a great mom to Leila (her first child) over the last 4 years and I am so proud of how well she is doing as the mom of two now. Eureka makes sure Leila knows she is loved and is always thinking of how to raise her now two daughters to be the best people they can be. She has been reading with and teaching Leila from the very beginning and is looking forward to sending her to pre-school in the fall and watching as she continues to learn and grow. Leila is such a caring child and never hesitates to say 'I love you, Mom!' at least once every day (especially at bed time). It is such a joy to see the three of them together as they begin to grow their own little family (with their dad too!) Eureka has been through some hard times, but she has never let that stop her from loving and caring for her beautiful daughters. She loves being a mom and always thinks about her daughters and makes sure they know they are important and loved.

Jen and Hailey

Jen and Hailey

My mom and I have many common interests, we love to make sourdough bread together, we love to garden together, and we love coming up with new ways to homestead on our city property. Two years ago we made the choice to homeschool which was a huge decision for us, we had no idea what we were doing, but my mom helped me stick with it. She encouraged me to find new ways to enjoy my passions and in the meantime she taught me new ones. My mom is my firm foundation, we don’t always get along but she will hold me up when I can’t hold on, and I can count on her.

Marilyn and Kathy

Mom is Absolutely Amazing! She has taught me right from wrong. How to live my dream and how to be the Best person you can be. She also taught me how important it is to help others when you can and to always volunteer and give back as much as you can.

Maria and Betty

Maria and Betty

My mom is the strongest and most amazing person! She is a very faithful prayer and has raised us in a very Christ centered family. And I thank god for that. She has gone through so much in her life and never complains about it. She lost a son (16) in an accident and only 7 years later her husband at the age of 54 on a massive heart attack. She finished raising the last few of 11 kids by herself. Re remarried after about 9 years and „adopted „ an other 7 kids with families. In March 2020 her second husband died of heart failure. 6 of her kids with families live in Canada and the rest lives in Paraguay. This year she decided to come here and stay for a undecided time and for that reason I will be able to spend my first Mother’s Day after 20 years with her. Winning this would mean the world to me and her as well Growing up in Paraguay and not having a camera is the reason for not having a then picture. And the now picture is on her 80th birthday last year what we were able to spend all together as siblings after 27 years. Thank you for reading this ❤️ .

I, Debbie am Michaela’s mom. Michaela is in Gascony, France working on a bee farm right now so mom is doing this on her behalf. My daughter has made me, as a mom, so very proud to be a mom. I also have a son who is amazing! I love them both with all my heart although there have been times I would have traded them for goldfish! And I’m sure they would have also been happy to be traded. God has blessed me and for that we are thankful ♥️

I didn’t have very many friends growing up, and my mom was a stay-at-home mother, even homeschooling me for parts of my elementary, so she has truly been my best friend in addition to being a wonderful mother my whole life. She’s a kind-hearted, patient and compassionate woman, and I love her very much.

My mother & I have always been close, more like best friends! We have been through a lot together over the years. She was a single mother during my younger years, working 2 or more jobs to make ends meet. She managed to finish university during this time & received her BSW in social work. We have been working for the same agency now since 2008, although at different office locations. We are both empaths, very caring people who are also major animal lovers =) She is now a grandmother to my 21 month old son. My mother & I deserves something special this year! My mothers job is very demanding & stressful..she also struggles with Rhumathoid Arthritis. As for myself, life is so hectic working full time & with a toddler at home. We don't get to spend as much time together these days, although we are both very blessed to have each other & are grateful for our families :) Please let me know if the photos attached properly =) thank-you kindly

My mom is a very loving and courageous woman. My dad passed away in 1996 and my mom singlehandedly with her pension as a retired nurse and proceeds from little entrepreneurship here and there saw my three siblings and me through university in Nigeria. Her sacrifices are too numerous and my daughter and I loved spending time with her when she was last in Canada in 2019. The first picture is me as a toddler in the seventies in Nigeria and the now picture is Christmas of 2019 in Canada. Thank you.

My dad past away when I was only 7 years old and my momraised5 kids all on her own for many years. My brother was the oldest and I am the youngest. In both photos my mom is on the far right followed by oldest to youngest as you move left from her. She had to over come many struggles and hardships as she learned how to raise children without my dad and get 4 girls through teenage drama and try to raise a young man of only 13 at the time with a house full of estrogen.

My mom is my greatest supporter and prayer warrior! She is the first person I call when I have good news and she is the first person I call when I’ve had a bad day and need some cheering up. My mother is my tower. Stands tall and brave and strong. Her heart belongs to Jesus. Her children are her song. Her steadfast love has carried me, through many days of pain. Her trust in God and prayers to Him. Have proven much to gain. I'll never know the load she bore to make me who I am. But I want the world to know, how much I love her, if I can.

Elizabeth and Judi

Elizabeth and Judy

My mom is great! When we were kids she taught us so many practical ways to live that I still follow. She has a real gift of hospitality and even now at age 91 she is still baking cookies when I come to visit. She also makes sure to pray for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandkids. Where would we be without her prayers! She will be having her 92nd birthday this month and I would love to surprise her with this prize. Yes, she won't be able to use all of the gifts in her prize, but she will be sure to generously regift those things that she can't use so that her prize will bless many.

Tina and Diane

My mom has had a terrible time with the fact that I moved away to South America. Winning this contest for her would mean the world to me and her. It would show her that I still care about her even though I’m so far away. She has many health conditions that mostly keep her inside the house, and she hardly gets out to enjoy life.. My mom is a person who always cares about everybody else and herself last. She deserves to win something nice for a change and get spoiled. The cleaning price would be perfect for her, that way she wouldn’t need to worry about cleaning her house, which she can hardly do anymore. And I’m not there to help her anymore.

Wendi and Megan

Wendi and Megan

My name is Megan, my mom's name is Wendi. She's the kindest, gentlest soul you'll ever meet and I pray one day I can be as grace filled as her. She finished writing a book about her mother's life last year (Anna, a grace filled life) and we want her to know how incredibly proud we are of her. And how proud her mother would be of her ❤️ she radiates Jesus wherever she goes and her life is a living testimony of Christ. She deserves all the appreciation this mother's day, and always. Love you mom.

She really IS a true Mom."

She snuggles me and takes care of me when I'm sick.
She loves me everyday and she will never leave me.
She also keeps the house clean and everything she does for me, I like."
