In August of 2023, after area residents shared their concerns, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) began investigating a 38-year-old male suspect involved in the trafficking of illegal drugs in the Point Douglas neighbourhood.

According to officers during the investigation on October 19, 2023, DEU officers followed the suspect travelling in a taxi and conducted a traffic stop near Logan Avenue and Isabel Street. Officers arrested him and located the following property in his possession, which were taken as evidence:

  • A sawed-off .22 Calibre Rifle with ammunition
  • Approximately $7,750 street value worth of Methamphetamine 
  • Cell phone
  • Approximately $545 CDN Currency
  • Packaging Materials

According to officers, later the same day, Tactical Support Team members executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in North Point Douglas. An adult male and an adult female were arrested in the residence. 

After a search of the property, the following items were seized as evidence:

  • A loaded sawed-off .22 Calibre Rifle
  • 51 .22 Calibre Rounds of Ammunition
  • Body Armour
  • $2,100 Estimated Street Value worth of Methamphetamine
  • Approximately $505 CDN Currency

The 38-year-old male has many charges including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, carrying concealed weapon prohibited device or ammunition, and possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking Methamphetamine.

A 33-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing multiple charges including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking Methamphetamine.

Both were detained in custody.
