The Winnipeg Blue Bombers say that their number one quarterback will be out of the lineup for the foreseeable future.

Matt Nichols was injured with nine minutes left in their victory over the BC Lions on Thursday night. He was nowhere to be found after the game and the Bombers had kept tight-lipped over the weekend.

On Monday head coach Mike O'Shea confirmed that Nichols has gone on the six-game injured list with an upper-body injury. Nichols had left the game favouring his throwing arm after being sacked by defensive lineman Shawn Lemon.

Backup quarterback Chris Streveler has some experience since starting a few games last season as a rookie.

"I think there's definitely a lot more comfort there. You know, not only just starting some games last year, but I mean I've played in every game since I've been here."

He says that he's taking each experience he's received in training camp, practices, and games and is learning from them all.

O'Shea confirmed the team has reached out to other quarterbacks to backup Streveler including retired Kevin Glenn. Glenn declined to join the team.

Streveler went 1-3 in the four games he started last season.

The 7-2 Bombers face the 6-3 Eskimos this Friday in Edmonton, and then the Riders next week in the Labour Day Classic.
