Winnipeg stepped up to the plate and covered all the volunteering jobs for the Canada Summer Games, but that doesn't mean there isn't something for you to do.

The 2017 Canada Summer Games are scheduled to get underway on July 28 and run for two weeks. During those two weeks, the Canada Games Festival will be happening at The Forks, and it promises to be fun for the entire family.

"We're partnering with each province for a night," said Jason Smith, the Director of Special Events for the Canada Summer Games. "Each night you'll be able to take in free programming."

Fred Penner will be out for Manitoba night, along with other award-winning bands throughout the evening.

"One night I am looking forward to is the three northern territories," Smith said. "We're bringing in a demonstration by the Traditional Games of the Northwest Territories . . . it's interesting programming that people would not have a chance to see normally."

Everything in the Forks is free over the 11 days and it's all family-friendly.

The call was out for volunteers at the beginning of the year, but they have all been filled up and Smith isn't surprised.

"Winnipeg, we know, is a great city for volunteerism," Smith said. "The way we're able to bring events of this size is by having the support of the city and the volunteers."

The Festival starts on July 29 and runs every night until the end of the games.
