On February 15, the City announced an investment of $2.6 million will replace the ceiling, lighting, and the public address system of the Pan Am Pool.

The 51 year old ceiling, lighting, and public address system are finally being replaced with the construction project beginning in summer 2018. The City of Winnipeg says they are ensuring that the Pan Am Pool remains a safe and enjoyable facility for many years to come because of the investment that will be made into it.

Jenn Sarna, Manager of Aquatic Services for the City of Winnipeg, says, "The Pan Am Pool is one of Winnipeg's most highly used recreation facilities and it has served our community well in its 51 years of service. The pool is a popular practice location for many of our city's competitive swim and dive programs. This capital project improves not only the ceiling, but the lighting and the public address system which are important for the public’s safety during competitions and day-to-day use."

The project will begin during the pool's annual maintenance shutdown that starts at the end of July. The duration of the project has not been finalized, but it is anticipated to take at least the rest of the year. The ceiling's repair will take the most time out of the entire project.

This $2.6 million investment was approved by Council on the 2019 Capital Budget's first call.
