Shortly after 5 p.m., on Thursday, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a call of a house fire. 

Crews arrived at a one-and-a-half storey, single-family home in the 500 block of Young Street to heavy smoke from the residence. They entered the home and fought the fire from the inside. The blaze was declared under control at 5:38 p.m.

No occupants were found inside after firefighters searched the building and no injuries were reported. Crews located a pet turtle that was brought out to safety. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
