A Winnipeg church plant is adding a second service, but it's a bit different than how most churches do a second worship gathering.

"There are a lot of people who for some time have not been able to attend church," Pastor Andaza Hezekiah says. Peoples lives are filled with a number of events that vie for their time, and those events often take place on Sundays, the pastor of Joy Fountain Church says. Hezekiah says he doesn't judge those people. In fact, he says, he understands that struggle. "We're a sporting family, and so I know the tough choices those people face. You can't do away with those things - they're a part of our lives."

Instead of forcing people to choose between other life events and attending a Sunday morning worship gathering, Hezekiah says that Joy Fountain wants to give people another option. That's why they're starting a new service on Saturday evenings.

"I don't think Jesus said it has to be only on Sunday (that we gather for worship). The early Apostles met every day," Hezekiah says referencing Acts 2:46 which says, "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts."

That's why the Saturday evening worship gatherings will also include dessert. While the services will begin at 7:00 p.m., Hezekiah says to come early. "What we'll do every Saturday, at 6:20 p.m., dessert is on us. As long as God provides, come for dessert and coffee and a time of fellowship before the service."

Something else unique is that Joy Fountains second service is nowhere near where their Sunday service takes place. Joy Fountain Church meets out of River East Collegiate in Winnipeg's North Kildonan neighbourhood. Now, for the second service, the church is heading west.

"It's easier for us to actually add a second service on Sunday . . . but the more I prayed about it, St. James has been on my heart for about two years now." The church decided to seek out space recently, and they found space to share with another church. "We want to see what God will do. Sow the seed somewhere else. He says, 'you are my witnesses in Jerusalem, and Judea and Samaria, and all the ends of the earth.' So we're just going further."

The new worship gatherings begin on November 4, 2017. They'll take place at Westwood Presbyterian Church, at 197 Browning Blvd.
