Winnipeg Police say two people have been found dead in a Point Douglas home where a fire broke out overnight.

Emergency crews remain on scene in the 100 block of Prince Edward Street; they first responded around 2:15 this morning.

Police say the home was fully engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived.

Two people escaped the home by jumping from a window. They've been taken to hospital; one is in critical condition, the other was unstable but has been upgraded to stable, according to police. Two more people were unaccounted for, but the intensity of the fire prevented firefighters from entering the home; police have now confirmed two fatalities.

There is no word on a cause of fire at this point.
