A stolen vehicle crashed into three parked cars Wednesday afternoon, ending a police chase.

A Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) K9 Unit travelling through the area of Main Street and Redwood Avenue on Wednesday morning happened to observe a stolen vehicle.

Officers saw the vehicle around 10:30 a.m. being driven by a suspect. The driver became aware of police presence and fled at high speeds through nearby residential areas.

The suspect then drove the stolen vehicle into three parked cars, also knocking over street lights located in the 400 block of St. Johns Avenue. The driver then fled the crashed vehicle.

He ran into a garage in the 500 block of St. John's Avenue and was eventually taken into custody. Police say there were no further incidents during his arrest.

Inside the stolen vehicle, an improvised firing device called a zip-gun was located. It was found loaded.

The suspect, a 27-year-old male, is facing 16 charges pertaining to firearms, theft, and failure to comply. Police say he has been detained in custody.
