While autumn is officially here, construction season is yet to leave Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is reminding motorists that construction zones are constantly popping up in new places, and changing daily.

WPS says that a few tips can help both commuters and construction workers get home safely:

· In construction zones speed limits change, ensure you follow the posted speed limit and obey all other posted signage in that area. This will keep both the driver and construction workers safe, not to mention speed fine doubles in construction zones.

· When setting out for your commute, you should also expect the unexpected. Traffic patterns can change daily and workers, equipment, and work vehicles may unexpectedly enter your lane without warning: If this happens, remain calm and avoid any risky driving. Always give yourself extra time during your commute.

· Minimize distractions, such as cell phone use and always buckle up.
