UPDATE: Police are charging a suspect after two teen girls were confronted by a man with a knife, who then robbed the pair and sexually assaulted one of the teens.

Early Tuesday morning at around 4:30 a.m, two teen girls in the area of Stella Avenue and McKenzie Street were approached by a man. The man yielded a knife and robbed them of their cell phones. At this time, police say a brief physical confrontation took place.

Next, the man grabbed one of the teen girls, pulling her for several yards into an open industrial area nearby. Police say the girl was seriously sexually assaulted in the open area by the suspect.

The second teen then reported the incident to the Winnipeg Police Service, who responded, finding her unharmed in the area of Powers Street and Flora Avenue.

Shortly afterwards, the first victim was found and taken to the hospital. She was treated for her injuries.

Police say a 32-year-old suspect was found and arrested on Thursday by the Sex Crimes Unit.

The suspect is now facing the following charges:

  • Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  • Sexual Interference
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Robbery x 2
