A young woman remains in hospital on Monday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Pembina Highway on Friday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that they were called to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the 1400 block of Pembina Highway around 11:30 p.m.

Dispatched West District General Patrol officers attended and located a 23-year-old female suffering from serious injuries sustained in the collision. Officers provided the victim with emergency medical care before the arrival of an ambulance.

The woman was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she remains in guarded condition. The 58-year-old driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and spoke with officers.

The WPS says that their investigation has determined that the victim had run in front of the involved vehicle, driven southbound on Pembina Highway between Clarence and Boston Avenues. The vehicle collided with the pedestrian, resulting in serious bodily injuries.

Members of the Traffic Division have assumed the investigation.
