Manitoba's police watchdog has terminated its investigation into allegations that RCMP officers assaulted a man who was arrested on his property northwest of Brandon.

The Independent Investigation Unit says it was alleged that four officers went to the property in the Rural Municipality of Elphinstone last October 19 while he was having a fire.

It says it was also alleged that the man suffered a broken nose, broken glasses and ripped pants after he was attacked by police and held in the detachment for several hours.

But it says it's no longer satisfied that grounds exist for an investigation after the man made inconsistent statements to investigators and retracted permission for the release of medical information as evidence.
