Update: McPhillips Street has reopened following an early morning fire.

At around 5:50 a.m., fire crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey restaurant in the 200 block of McPhillips Street.

Heavy smoke was found pouring out of the building when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Crews entered the building and launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:32 a.m.

No one was in the building when the fire broke out.

One firefighter was injured at the scene and transported to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A portion of McPhillips Street is closed Saturday morning as firefighters battle a blaze in the area.

The fire broke out at around 5:45 a.m. in a building near McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue.

Southbound McPhillips Street is closed at Logan Avenue while crews continue to fight the fire.

There is no word on a cause or injuries at this time.
