A Winnipeg worship leader is recovering after a hockey game turned into a broken femur.

In an online post, Mike Burnard and his wife, Jasmine, shared a prayer request with followers.

"Mike broke his femur while playing hockey last night and will be having surgery today in Winnipeg," the post, shared Jan. 20, 2020, read.

"Specific prayer for surgery to go well, for his pain levels to be manageable for his mental strength and endurance as he goes down the long road of recovery."

Burnard revealed online that he received his severe injury after he slid knees-first into the boards while playing hockey.

Burnard is also the lead singer for the Manitoba band, The Boy & The Sea.

The Burnards noted that one year ago, their family was flying to Edmonton for their son, Declan, to have surgery to repair his transposition of the great arteries (TGA).

Burnard seems to have maintained his sense of humour through the ordeal, as seen through his activity on social media. He is now out of surgery, and he remains strong in faith alongside his family.

"Starting the year of again with more faith and reliance on God and trusting his plan through all this," the Burnard's say.

The Meeting Place Lead Pastor John Neufeld also posted online.

"@mikeburnard you put the wreck in rec hockey," Neufeld joked. He also is helping to organize meals for the Burnard's during this time, and asks that people interested in providing food for the family message him online.
