As part of the second phase for reopening the province, Manitoba schools will be opened once again on June 1. But that doesn't mean school is in session as normal.

Despite reopening schools, the Province of Manitoba says in-class group instruction continues to be cancelled.

The Winnipeg School Division (WSD) says they intend to align their plans for reopening schools with the gradual reopening to take place in June.

"WSD staff and teachers are looking forward to this period of transition as a way to reconnect with some of our students and help others achieve their goals for the school year," says WSD.

.

Home learning will continue in June but wind down throughout the month as student assessment and transition takes place, WSD says.

Bus transportation will not be available for students in June. Student who would take the bus to school will require alternate transportation to be arranged by their parent should they be attending in-school sessions.

Further plans are being explored for Inclusive Education students. WSD says schools will contact these students with more information when it is available.

WSD will observe and assess social distancing protocols and how they can be improved prior to classes beginning in September.

"We thank all of our parents/guardians for your patience and support as we have navigated the past nine weeks of home-learning," says WSD.

"While June won't be a full return to school as usual, it is a beginning toward our new normal."
