The Government of Manitoba is announcing an $11 million program to support Manitobans purchasing vehicles.

Vehicle registration fees will be lowering by 10 per cent starting on July 1, 2020.

This change is expected to save the average Manitoban $15.

15 in savings is applicable to the following non-commercial vehicles:

  • passenger cars
  • sport utility vehicles
  • light trucks
  • farm vehicles
  • motorcycles/mopeds
  • personal-use trailers and trucks

Warton adds that the decrease is part of a commitment to reverse changes made in 2012 by the previous administration.

In addition to the lower registration costs, Wartonis reminding Manitobans that an MPI rebate will be coming in late May or early June.

“With a healthy reserve fund and fewer claims during this COVID-19 period, MPI is in a strong financial situation to move forward with these rebate cheques to support Manitobans," he says.

The average Manitoban can expect to receive anywhere from $140 to $160 in MPI rebates.
