At 1:55 p.m., cell phones, radios, and televisions will be broadcasting an alert.

The Alert Ready National Public Alerting System is broadcasting the alert Wednesday afternoon.

It will be distributed among broadcast media and through internet services and LTE cellular networks.

"Some Manitobans may not receive the test alert on their wireless device for a variety of reasons including device compatibility, availability of an LTE network, cell tower coverage and individual device software and settings," the province says in a statement.

The Alert Ready Emergency Alert System says phones are geotargeted with the alerts. It is not possible to opt-out of the alert. If a phone does not receive the alert, the phone may have connectivity issues.

Other Canadian provinces will also be issuing an alert on Wednesday.
