Police have identified a suspect in a sexual assault that happened in early August thanks to help from members of the public.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by police and charged with sexual assault, break and enter, and overcoming resistance by attempting to choke in connection to an Aug. 4 assault.

The assualt happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Furby Street.

A man broke to a woman's suite through an unlocked fire escape door and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to fight off the man and called for help as he fled.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated and released.

Police described the subject at the time as indigenous, between the age of 25 and 30, around 5'7" in height with a stocky build and short black hair. He was wearing a blue or grey shirt, beige shorts, black shoes, a black backpack and a blue surgical face mask.

The man has been detained in custody.
