Kurios Kingdom Publishing is a new Christian publishing company with a primary focus on children's books.

"We're trying to empower Christian people to do Christian things," Director Peter Serger says. "You often see a lot of people who try to be Christian step into the secular because they don't find a place to do creative stuff for Christian purposes."

That's where Kurios Kingdom hopes to step in.

"We do what we do to empower people to use their creative gifts for God in a real setting, empower our readers and audience to engage, and our books are also designed to support missions. Most of our products right now go to support some camps in northern Manitoba to send some of the people from the reserves to Christian camps."

Serger hopes to connect people to their faith in a deeper way, and with a background in working with youth and children, a publishing contest for kids struck the right chord.

"As we've experienced and as we've talked with people, we've seen that there's a huge need to give children, especially, an opportunity to use things like writing, illustrating, and graphic design."

It's all about engaging people through ways they can show their creativity in the real world, says Serger.

The point of the contest is to give kids the opportunity to do just that, while also exploring Christ through their creativity.

Both writing and illustrating are involved in the Kurios Kingdom Publishing contest. For the written portion, applicants will submit a 500 word short story with a Christian theme or aspect. For those who are more drawn to the visual creative arts, kids are asked to illustrate a section of one of Kurios Kingdom's stories.

"Really, our heart is just to tell children about Jesus and to get a message out so that Christ can be glorified," Serger shared.

The deadline for the contest is June 15, 2018. More details on the contest can be found here.
