Two men are recovering after being seriously assaulted in separate incidents inside Manitoba correctional facilities this week.

Manitoba RCMP says they received a report on March 10 that a 39-year-old male inmate at the Headingley Correctional Centre had been assaulted.

During their investigation officers determined that the inmate had been assaulted numerous times over a two-day period & also suffered a stab wound while in his cell.

He was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

On March 12, 2020, at 1:30 pm, Stonewall RCMP received a report that a 34-year-old male inmate at Stony Mountain Institution had been assaulted.

Officers were advised that the 34-year-old male inmate had been stabbed numerous times while in his cell. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries where he remains in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time in either incident.

Officers from the Stonewall Detachment, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate both incidents.
