A 54-year-old man is facing thousands of dollars in fines after he fled from police while going 100 km/h over the speed limit.

The Manitoba RCMP says that members clocked the man going 182 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Wilkes Ave., west of the Perimeter Highway on May 29.

The man, who was driving a 2012 Ford Focus decided to flee from police rather than pull over.

Rather than pursue him in a dangerous situation, the police instead relied on technology. The police car’s Automated Licence Plate Reader was able to capture the car’s licence plate and the driver was later located at his residence.

He was fined $1255 for speeding, $672 for failing to stop for police, $203 for driving imprudently and a serious offence notice for a license review with MPI.
