The YFC Samon's Ball Hockey League champions are the Rebels after beating the Pioneers 3-2 in game three.

The Samson's Ball Hockey League (SBHL) is a ministry of Youth For Christ Winnipeg. Players from Elmwood, the North End, and throughout the rest of the city gather to play a fun and competitive game of ball hockey. Coaches play with the team and have a chance to talk about God at the end of every game and how he is working in them, in the city, and there in the hockey game.

The championship series between the Rebels and Pioneers was everything you could have asked for. The Rebels opened the series with a thrilling 6-5 win in overtime to take game one on Monday. Cody Wood scored the overtime winner. He has been in the 'Stanley Cup' finals for three straight years but hadn't won a cup yet.

Game two saw the Pioneers battle back to even up the series. Morgan and Walker Hobbs, brothers, lit up the Rebels goaltender to take game two by a commanding score of 11-5. Morgan Hobbs as well as teammate Jacob Holloway have been in the junior and senior divisions of the SBHL for eight years and have never been won a championship. Morgan Hobbs has never made it to the finals until this year.

In a shortened game three, defence was front and center. The Rebels scored a quick goal to go up, but then the goaltenders shut the game down. The Rebels were able to get up 3-2 in the second half, and some incredible saves by player of the game Ethan Hunter sealed it. The Rebels won the series and the 'Stanley Cup'.

"I think everyone did an amazing job," Morgan Hobbs said today. "It was a great series to be a part of, could've gone either way."
