Presents have been unwrapped, and many people have started to take down Christmas decorations, leaving many wondering what to do with their Christmas tree.

The City of Winnipeg is encouraging Winnipeggers to recycle their real Christmas trees.

Trees can be dropped off at Let's Chip in Depots, starting today, up until January 31st, 2018. Residents are reminded that trees placed at the curb next to recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

The trees will be turned into wood chips, that will be available for free to the public starting in early January.

All plastic tree bags, tinsel, lights, decorations and tree stands must be removed before leaving a tree at a depot

Keeping Christmas trees out of the landfill helps to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Winnipeg residents recycled a total of 9,414 trees last season.
