The Salvation Army's kettle is feeling lighter than usual and is asking for increased support this Christmas.

The Salvation Army has only received 51% of its winter donation goal despite having 40 donation locations across the city. Its goal is to raise $385,000 in Winnipeg through the kettle campaign.

"We are finding ourselves a little bit lower than we hoped to be at this time of year," Captain Jamie Rands says. "We're hoping to put a push out there to the great Winnipeg community to come forth if they're able to."

The Salvation Army works to give hope to struggling community members. They have been known to give clothing to families who lost everything is a fire, help with addictions programs, and aid during wartimes.

"It's always a joy (to collect donations)", Rands says. "I love standing there and listening to the stories of people who were helped by the army."

Rands has faith that Winnipeg will come together to help them with this year's kettle campaign.

"We just want to thank the community for what they've already given and we look forward to seeing where this ends up a the end of the campaign."

The Salvation Army can be heard ringing their bell in shopping centers, grocery stores and at other various locations across the city. They also accept donations through the Salvation Army website.
